Today, Friday October 24 15.00, a lot of people gathered outside Kungsholmens Gymnasium to protest against the fact that decisions about Stockholm’s schools are being made above the students’ heads. On the speaker list were representatives from both the Students’ Unions of Kungsholmens gymnasium and Kulturama Gymnasium, together with Kungsholmen’s IB coordinator and a teacher from the international section. Among the protesters were alumni, teachers, the school leadership and students from both Kungsholmen and Globala Gymnasiet. A reporter and a photographer from Dagens Nyheter were present as well.

The manifestation then moved to Hantverkargatan 2 where the Department of Education in Stockholm is located. There, the protesters delivered their message: “Rör inte våra skolor”, which can be roughly translated into “Hands off our schools”. After a few minutes the group moved to City Hall, where a final speech was held by a Kungsholmen student. Students from the choir section sang in support of the movement, and a lot of Instagram pictures were taken with the hashtag #rörintevåraskolor. The group waited approximately 20 minutes before Olle Brunell, who was recently made responsible for Stockholm’s schools, came out to listen to what the group’s representative Upasana Chatterjee had to say.
