FÖLJANDE ÄR baserat på tal hållna under mötet på Kungsholmens gymnasium fredagen, den17 oktober 2014.
Vi anser att ett sådant beslut skulle få långtgående konsekvenser inte bara för utbildningen och miljön för alla elever och anställda på Kungsholmens gymnasium, utan även för framtida elever i Stockholms stad. Vi är även oroade över de synnerligen korta tidsramar som förefaller omgärda denna beslutsprocess.
Vi anser att genom åren har Kungsholmens gymnasium utvecklats till en unik arbetsmiljö, vars styrka ligger i elevernas och lärarnas mångfald och dess blandning av det internationella och det svenska. IB är kärnan i detta.
Vi vill framhålla att Kungsholmens gymnasium med dess nuvarande struktur är en av de mest attraktiva och framgångsrika skolorna i Stockholmsregionen vilket speglas i skolans höga söktryck. Eleverna kommer in på världens mest eftertraktade utbildningar både i Sverige och utomlands efter sina år på Kungsholmen.
Vi anser att utan IB kommer sammansättningen på skolans lärarkår att förändras. En sådan omstrukturering skulle således få omfattande konsekvenser för Internationella sektionen och, i förlängningen, hela skolan.
Vi är oroade över att de elever som inte kommer att erbjudas IB- programmet på Kungsholmen inte självklart kommer att söka sig till ISSR. Därmed anser vi att beslutet varken kommer att gynna Kungsholmens gymnasium eller ISSR.
Vi anser att elever som söker IB på Kungsholmen också har rätt att få sina förstahandsval tillgodosedda.
Vi anser att kärnan i skolans vision är IB-programmet på KG. Med dess internationellt erkända standard, KG:s många elevföreningar, och dess omfattande lärarprofil berikar IB lärande på skolan som helhet. Därutöver knyter IB Kungsholmen an till en internationell gemenskap med syfte att överbrygga nationella, kulturella, religiösa och språkliga barriärer. På motsvarande sätt drar eleverna vid IB stor nytta av den integrering med den svenska läroplanen som erbjuds på KG.
Vi anser att om man koncentrerar IB till en enda kommunal skola i Stockholm skulle en omistlig möjlighet att bibehålla den toleranta miljö och stora mångfald som utmärker Kungsholmens gymnasium gå förlorad.
Därför:
Anser vi att ett beslut med sådana omfattande följder kräver en noggrann konsekvensanalys som beaktar de unika värden som riskerar att gå förlorade genom ett förhastat beslut.
Därför:
Vill vi att de möten som planeras tisdagen den 21 oktober markerar början på en beslutsprocess, inte slutet på en. Förhoppningsvis blir detta en konstruktiv dialog om en någor som är viktigt inte bara för Kungsholmens gymnasium och ISSR, utan i förlängningen alla kommunala gymnasieskolor i Stockholm.

An Open Letter to Jan Holmquist SECONDARY DIRECTOR The City of Stockholm, REGARDING THE PROPOSED RESTRUCTURING OF Kungsholmen WHERE IB program would cease to be offered on Kungsholmen FROM August 2015
The following is based upon the meeting held in Kungsholmen’s gymnasium on Friday, October 17 in 2014.
We believe that this decision has far-reaching consequences not only for the education and environment for all students and employees at Kungsholmen’s Gymnasium, but also for future students in the city of Stockholm. We are therefore concerned about the extremely short time frame of this decision process.
We believe that through the years Kungsholmen has evolved into a unique study and work environment whose strength lies in the students ’and teachers’ diversity and its mix of international and Swedish methods. The IB program is at the heart of this unique school.
We wish to emphasize that Kungsholmen, with its current structure, is one of the most attractive and successful schools in the Stockholm region as reflected in the school’s high number of applicants per place. Students from Kungsholmen gain entry to the world’s most sought after universities both in Sweden and abroad following their education at Kungsholmen.
We believe that without IB, the composition of the school’s teaching staff will change. Such a restructuring would thus have major implications for the International section and, by extension, the whole school.
We are concerned that students who are not able to apply for the IB program at Kungsholmen would not necessarily going to apply for ISSR. Thus, we believe that the decision will neither benefit Kungsholmen or ISSR.
We believe that students who are looking for IB at Kungsholmen are also entitled to be considered for their first choice.
We believe that the core of the school’s vision is the IB program at KG. With its internationally recognized standard, KG’s many student associations, and its extensive learning profile, IB enriches the teaching and learning at the school as a whole. In addition to that IB opens up Kungsholmen to an international community with a view of breaking national, cultural, religious and linguistic barriers. Integration, not segregation: We believe the IB students also greatly benefit from active participation and integration in a school that offers the Swedish curriculum like KG.
We believe that concentrating IB to a single public school in Stockholm neglects a golden opportunity to maintain the tolerant environment and diversity that characterizes Kungsholmen.
Therefore:
We believe that a decision with such far-reaching consequences requires a thorough impact assessment that takes into account the unique values that risk being lost through a hasty decision.
We want the meetings scheduled on Tuesday, October 21, to mark the beginning of a decision process, not the end of one. Hopefully this will be a constructive dialogue about a significant concern not only for Kungsholmen and ISSR, but by extension for all local high schools in Stockholm.
