The S.O.S Europe Race
Do you want to take part in making a difference for people? Amnesty Kungsholmen is together with Amnesty Stockholm organizing a race Sunday the 4th of May at Hellasgården in Nacka. The race will take place between 14.00 and 18.00 with the start going off at 15.00 and there will be two routes of either 5 km or 10 km for runners to take. The sign up is found on the Facebook page “Amnesty International” and the cost for part taking is 100kr. Runners get chocolate medals and fruit at the finish line and there will be other fun activities in the starting area.
Why run the S.O.S Europe race? Every year millions of people attempt to escape war, poverty and persecution by coming to the EU. But many get turned down already at the borders of EU and pushed back to their home countries, pushed back without even having gotten the chance of a fair trial of their asylum or visa. The phenomenon of push-backs has become a more and more common occurrence with the intensification of surveillance of the European borders; nonetheless push-backs violate civil law and can sometimes violate other fundamental rights such as right to health care and right to marine rescue.
